The new Group CTO, who brings experience from Marqeta, Salesforce and Microsoft, and the new Group CLO, who brings wide-ranging experience including IPO of Deliveroo, will support Trustly’s mission to redefine how data-driven payments work in a modern, digital economy
[STOCKHOLM / NEW YORK – 15 April 2026] – Trustly, the global leader in Pay by Bank, today announced the appointment of Randy Kern as its new Group Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Chantelle Zemba as its new Group Chief Legal Officer (CLO).
Kern brings a wealth of experience, having overseen highly technical engineering projects at major technology and software firms including Microsoft and Salesforce. Most recently, Kern spent more than three years in the role of Chief Product and Technology Officer at Marqeta, where he played a central role in scaling one of the world’s leading modern card issuing and payments platforms, supporting enterprise customers operating at global scale.
He has also held senior roles at Salesforce, where he served as CTO for several years. Prior to that, he worked as a trusted advisor for Microsoft’s C-suite on the development of Windows Azure.
Zemba spearheaded the legal team at Deliveroo from 2019 ahead of its Series H fundraiser, and built a world-class legal team to navigate the gig economy, negotiate all relationships with restaurants, ensure customer privacy and security was protected and led Series A to H fundraises including investment from Amazon and oversaw the company’s IPO in 2021.
They join Trustly at a pivotal moment for the business as it defines how data-driven payments transform opportunities for merchants and customers.
Data-driven payments play a key role in driving customer retention, reducing friction through features such as pre-filled information and tokenisation. They also provide valuable market insights and reporting that empower merchants to take action and increase customer lifetime value.
The appointments of the new CTO and CLO reflect Trustly’s ambition to unlock the full potential of a massive global market. The company’s platform enables seamless account-to-account payments while powering Trustly Insights – a service that turns complex data flows across markets, banks, and regulatory environments into actionable intelligence for merchants.
Trustly believes that the future of payments will be defined by the ability to leverage data effectively - transforming it into insight, trust, and value for merchants, consumers, and partners.
The company is also doubling down on the huge opportunities to be had stateside, and the appointments are part of a management drive to bring together the European and US businesses into a single global firm. Founded in Europe, Trustly entered the U.S. market back in 2019 and has been growing its presence there ever since. Today, the market accounts for around half of the group’s revenue and Trustly supports a wide range of enterprise merchants across the region, including major telecommunications firms Verizon and AT&T.
These appointments follow a period of strong momentum for Trustly. The company recently announced that it is on track to surpass 120 million users worldwide, marking a significant milestone in the accelerating adoption of Pay by Bank. This growth trajectory highlights the importance of continued investment in technology, platform performance, and data capabilities as Trustly scales its next phase of expansion.
Johan Tjärnberg, CEO of Trustly, said: “Randy and Chantelle’s appointments mark an important step in Trustly’s next phase of growth. The fact that they have chosen to join Trustly shows the huge opportunity ahead of us. As open banking payments become increasingly data-driven, having a technology leader with deep experience scaling global platforms will be critical. Randy brings an exceptional track record from the US market, and his leadership will help ensure our platform continues to deliver the performance, reliability, and intelligence our merchants and partners expect, across both Europe and the United States.”
Randy Kern, Group Chief Technology Officer at Trustly, said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Trustly, a company that is redefining payments through instant account-to-account transactions and data-driven insights that help merchants to refine their business models and better compete. Over the past 20 years, my career has underscored the transformative power of data, and I’m excited to help Trustly unlock even deeper customer and consumer insights across the payments journey. With an established leadership position across Europe and the U.S., Trustly has a powerful foundation to rapidly scale – accelerating growth, expanding its impact, and unlocking the next phase of value from its platform and insights capabilities.”
Chantelle Zemba, Group Chief Legal Officer at Trustly said: “I’m excited to join this leading, fast-growing company. As the leader in Pay by Bank, I look forward to making the arguments that customers should be in control of their data and enjoy all the benefits that data-driven payments can deliver, while ensuring that Trustly has best in class customer security operating systems in place.”
